Promising Young Woman is heading straight to Sky Cinema in the UK this April.
Nominated for 6 BAFTAs and 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Emerald Fennell’s feature debut stars Carey Mulligan as Cassie, a wickedly smart but focused woman, who in order to overcome events from her past lives a double life by night. Following an unexpected encounter, Cassie is given the chance to right the wrongs of the past.
Joining Carey Mulligan (Never Let Me Go) are Bo Burnham (The Big Sick), Alison Brie (Glow), Connie Britton (Nashville), Adam Brody (Shazam!), Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde), Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black), Max Greenfield (New Girl), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad), Chris Lowell (The Help), Sam Richardson (Veep), Molly Shannon (Never Been Kissed) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption).
With cinemas closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film has been postponed repeatedly, with film fans clamouring for a UK release date. Now, a release has finally been confirmed, with the film set to premiere exclusively on Sky Cinema on 16th April.
The release is the result of a deal between Sky, Focus Features and Universal Pictures International to bring the awards contender to UK audiences.
Sarah Wright, Director of Sky Cinema and Acquisitions at Sky UK & Ireland says: “Promising Young Woman’ is an outstanding debut by a very exciting filmmaker, deservedly receiving plaudits across the industry and we can’t wait to share it exclusively with Sky Cinema customers.”
The film will also be available on streaming service NOW via a Sky Cinema Membership, which costs £11.99 a month. It joins a number of other high profile acquisitions by Sky Cinema, including the Oscar-nominated The United States vs Billie Holiday and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. There is, of course, still a chance that it will be made available to cinemas when they reopen, in the same vein as Sound of Metal (arriving on Amazon Prime Video on 12th April) and Nomadland (available on Disney+ from 30th April).
