Wuaki.tv continues European expansion with Italy launch

Much has been made of Netflix’s launch in Australia, as well as its potential plans for China, but at the same time, another VOD service has been quietly growing: Wuaki.tv.
The pay-per-view site, which began in Spain before launching in the UK, France and Germany, has announced that it will start operations in Italy. This is the fifth market in which Wuaki.tv will be available. Indeed, the company closed 2014 with over 2 million users in Europe, 400,000 of those in the the UK, 85 per cent higher than the previous year. This growth has had a direct influence on its turnover revenue, which has increased 94 per cent globally.
The VOD company was acquired by the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten in 2012, which has ambitions to be one of the major European players within the streaming sector. Indeed, Wuaki.tv is currently eyeing up launched in Ireland Austria in the coming months. By the end of 2015, it plans to operate in 15 European countries.
