Netflix has found its Lara Croft for its new Tomb Raider series – and she might sound a little like Agent Peggy Carter.
Hayley Atwell, who has become a global star through her turn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will soon be seen in Mission: Impossible 7. But she’s also lending her talents to another major franchise too, signing on to voice Lara Croft in Netflix’s new animated series based on the hit video games.
The series will pick up after the events of the video-game reboot trilogy, charting the globetrotting heroine’s latest, greatest adventure. 25 years after her first game appeared, Lara continues to explore new territory.
The series will hail from dj2 Entertainment, a production company specialising in adapting video games as series and features. Executive Producers on the show include Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Red Sonja), who will write, dj2 Entertainment Founder and CEO Dmitri M Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), Stephan Bugaj and Howard Bliss; Jacob Robinson, under his company Tractor Pants.
Atwell follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who have both played Croft in live-action films on the big screen. She’s no stranger to animation or streaming, having just played Agent Carter in Marvel’s animated What If? series on Disney+.
The Tomb Raider series marks Netflix’s ongoing relationship with Legendary Television, with their partnership also extending to a Skull Island series and Pacific Rim: The Black.
