Simu Liu will star alongside Jennifer Lopez in Netflix’s Atlas.

The Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings star has signed on alongside Sterling K Brown (Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.) and Abraham Popoola (The Great) for the sci-fi thriller. It follows an intelligence analyst who gets stranded on a distant planet and must learn to fight inside a military-grade mech suit in order to survive.

Lopez will produce as well as star, with the project falling under the creative partnership between Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and Netflix where Lopez, producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and longtime manager Benny Medina are producing a slate of films, television series, scripted and unscripted content, with an emphasis on projects that support diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers.

The film is written by Aron Eli Coleite, based on an original script by Leo Sardarian, with Brad Peyton at the helm.

Peyton and Jeff Fierson will produce for ASAP Entertainment, alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter for Berlanti/Schechter Films, and Lopez, Goldsmith-Thomas and Medina. The executive producer is Mike McGrath.
