New Stranger Things Season 2 photos introduce Hawkins’ latest arrivals

It’s only a matter of weeks now until Stranger Things returns for Season 2 and a new set of photos give us our best look at the series’ sophomore run yet.
The show’s sequel, set in 1984, sees the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.
The pictures, unveiled by EW, feature all the old favourites from Season 1, including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair and Noah Schnapp as poor ickle Will Byers. Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers and David Harbour as Jim Hopper look as concerned and brooding as ever.
Joining them, though, are several new faces – including Aliens’ Paul Reiser as Dr. Owens, a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a clean-up assignment after the events of last year, The Goonie’s Sean Astin, who will play Bob Newby, a kindhearted former nerd, who went to high school with Joyce and Hopper and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack, plus Linnea Berthelsen as Roman, an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child, Sadie Sink as Max, a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behaviour and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era, and Dacre Montgomery as Max’s hyper-confident, edgy older step-brother, Billy.
Both Billy and Bob can be seen in the new photos, as Newby comforts old schoolmate Joyce and Billy sports the most 1980s haircut you’ve seen since, well, the last retro-1980s TV show that hit our screens.
The new pictures arrive just as Netflix continues its run of gloriously nostalgic posters – see the set here – and leave us dying for a new trailer to whet our appetites. First look images: Stranger Things Season 2
13th February 2017
Hot on the heels of the first Stranger Thing Season 2 trailer, we’ve not got our first look images from the show’s new season.
The series returns this Halloween, as the Superbowl teaser revealed, but now, we get more of a chance to linger over the details in these new stills, which show Will back at home, but still not quite right after That Bathroom Incident at the end of Season 1.
The official synopsis released by Netflix reads as follows:
“A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.”
And sure enough, from Will’s eerie expressions to the panic on the face of his mother (Winona Ryder) and the nocturnal snoopings of David Harbour’s Sheriff Hopper, it’s clear that there’s much more to uncover in the sleepy town.
The Duffer Brothers, who created the first season, have promised that Stranger Things will expand its scope a little bit beyond its home town Hawkins, and that new faces will also be joining the cast. They include Aliens’ Paul Reiser as Dr. Owens, a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a clean-up assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year. And The Goonie’s Sean Astin, who will play Bob Newby, a kindhearted former nerd, who went to high school with Will’s mother and Hopper and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.
And, of course, there’s Linnea Berthelsen as Roman, an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child, Sadie Sink as Max, a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behaviour and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era, and Dacre Montgomery as Max’s hyper-confident, edgy older step-brother, Billy.
For more of the new season, see the trailer here – including more of everyone’s favourite child stars dressed as Ghostbusters – or if you’re still not on the Stranger Things train, catch up with our reviews of Season 1 here.
