Memories of a Murder: Netflix explores the Denis Nilsen Tapes in new series

Netflix is delving into the archive of tapes recorded by Denis Nilsen in a new true crime documentary series.
Britain’s most notorious serial killer, Nilsen confessed to killing 15 people in 1983. Over a five-year period, he picked up vulnerable young men, lured them back to his home and strangled them, before disposing of their bodies under the floorboards.
The truth about how and why he killed has been the subject of much speculation in books and documentaries over the decades since, with Nilsen’s own tendency for self-mythologising captured in a performance by David Tennant in ITV’s recent drama Des. Where that focused on other people apart from him, Netflix’s series will be based on 250+ hours of cassette tapes of his private recordings.
You can hear the result on Wednesday 18th August, when the series premieres on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:
Memories of a Murder: The Nilsen Tapes is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
