Jaime King to star in Netflix zombie drama Black Summer
20th July 2018
Netflix is getting into the zombie game with a new series called Black Summer.
The show hails from the John Hyams and Karl Schaefer, the co-creator of comedy-drama Z Nation. As that prepares to return to SyFy for its fifth season in the USA, it’s tempting to label Netflix’s own zombie drama a spin-off from that popular franchise. Jaime King, though, has confirmed that it is not a spin-off, so don’t expect any crossovers, a la The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.
King, who starred in My Bloody Valentine, will play a mother who is torn from her daughter. Their separation prompts her to embark upon a harrowing journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.
The show is produced by The Asylum, with Schaefer and Hyams serving as co-showrunners. Netflix has ordered eight episodes.
