Watch: New trailer for The Witcher Season 2
David Farnor | On 29, Oct 2021
“Something has changed. The world’s acting strange.” That’s the sound of The Witcher returning to Netflix this winter – and a new trailer gives us a fresh look at Season 2.
Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is a tale of fate and family. It tells the story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Season 2 of The Witcher sees Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.
Returning for Season 2 are Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring and Lars Mikkelsen. You can see them in action on 17th December, when Season 2 debuts on Netflix.
Until then, here’s the new video – and no, your ears aren’t mistaken, that is Monster by Kanye West you can hear. (Because the show has monsters in it, get it?)

First look: Henry Cavill in The Witcher Season 2
5th October 2020
Netflix has dropped the first images of Henry Cavill in The Witcher Season 2.
The fantasy epic, based on the hit book series of the same name, stars Cavill (Mission Impossible – Fallout, Man of Steel) as Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter in the volatile kingdom of The Continent.
Season 2 will see him return alongside Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders, Wanderlust) as the sorceress Yennefer, Freya Allan (Third Day, Gunpowder Milkshake) as Ciri and Joey Batey (Knightfall, Strike) as fan-favourite Jaskier – plus Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve) as Vesemir, a relic of the Witcher Golden Age.
While Cavill reprising his lead role in the franchise may not be a surprise, the pictures do give us a look at Geralt in his new armour and Cavill looking increasingly at home in it. There’s no word yet on a release date for the show’s sophomore run, given the interruption to production posed by the coronavirus pandemic, but with new images arriving now, it’s safe to presume that production has resumed on once more. Expect Season 2 to arrive in 2021.
Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia joins The Witcher Season 2
3rd March 2020
Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia has joined the cast of The Witcher for its second season.
Netflix’s fantasy epic, based on the hit book series of the same name, stars Henry Cavill (Mission Impossible – Fallout, Man of Steel) as Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter in the volatile kingdom of The Continent. Alongside him, Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders, Wanderlust) returns for Season 2 as the sorceress Yennefer, Freya Allan (Third Day, Gunpowder Milkshake) as Ciri and Joey Batey (Knightfall, Strike) as fan-favourite Jaskier.
Joining them will be Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, a relic of the Witcher Golden Age. The oldest and most experienced Witcher on The Continent, the charming veteran is a survivor of the massacre that nearly wiped out the Witchers, which left him both protective of those still left behind and a father figure to Geralt. A mentor to a lone figure who violently dispatches people from existence? It’s a natural fit for Bodnia, who became a fan favourite as Konstantin, mentor to assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve.
“I am so thrilled to welcome Kim Bodnia to the cast of The Witcher,” EP and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in a statement. “I have admired his unique talents in shows like Killing Eve and The Bridge, and cannot wait for him to bring strength, tenacity, and warmth to the character of Vesemir, who is such an integral part of our upcoming season.”
He joins the cast alongside other new additions Yasen Atourn, Agnes Born, Paul Bullion, Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Aisha Fabienne Ross, Kristofer Hivju and Mecia Simson.
Other returning cast include MyAnna Buring (Kill List) as Tissaia, Tom Canton (Good Karma Hospital) as Filavandrel, Lilly Cooper (Peterloo) as Murta, Jeremy Crawford (Titans) as Yarpin Zigrin, Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks) as Cahir, Mahesh Jadu (Marco Polo) as Vilgefortz, Terence Maynard (Cursed) as Artorius, Lars Mikkelson (House of Cards) as Stregobor, Mimi Ndiweni (Black Earth Rising) as Fringilla Vigo, Royce Pierreson (Judy) as Istredd, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Hunter Street) as Dara, Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter) as Triss Merigold, Therica Wilson Read (Young Wallander) as Sabrina.

Netflix renews The Witcher for Season 2
13th November 2019
Netflix has renewed The Witcher for Season 2, before the first season has even aired.
Based on the bestselling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
Henry Cavill (Mission Impossible – Fallout, Justice League) leads the cast, playing the role of Geralt of Rivia, alongside Anya Cholatra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as Eist, Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) as Mousesack and MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street, Kill List) as Tissaia.
The show marks a big push by Netflix into the fantasy arena, as it joins the growing number of broadcasters and streamers attempting to make the next Game of Thrones. The Witcher saga is a strong choice for source material, with its most recent novel published in 2013 and a slew of board game and video game adaptations that have helped build a large fanbase.
Season 1 is already highly anticipated, as it prepares to debut on Netflix on 20th December. Now, Netflix has announced an eight-episode second season will begin production in early 2020, with Cavill, Allan and Chalotra set to return, alongside showrunner Schmidt Hissrich and exec-producers Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko.
“I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri,” Hissrich said in a statement.
