From Beyonce to Billie Eilish: Sky Arts launches Front Room Festival
David Farnor | On 04, Jul 2020
With music festivals postponed this summer, broadcasters, artists and organisers have been finding a range of ways to fill that music-shaped hole in people’s summer. The Royal Albert Hall has been streaming new and old concerts for free on YouTube, as part of its Royal Albert Home series, Radiohead has been releasing past gigs on YouTube for free on Thursday nights, Cheltenham Jazz Festival beamed artists from their homes and gardens to people’s living rooms and BBC iPlayer hosted a weekend of Glastonbury highlights. Now, Sky Arts is picking up the baton with its own Front Room Festival.
The channel, which is dedicated to arts and culture, has lined up several weeks of hit concerts, kicking of with Beyonce’s I Am… world tour on Saturday 4th July, which takes us on her world tour and gives us a rare glimpse into the dynamic and personal world of the singer. Beyonce’s followed by a series of performances from Austin City Limits, the longest-running music series in American television history. Billie Eilish begins the run on 5th July, while American Rock legends Kings of Leon, recorded live at the O2, also present a 24-song set spanning their career, and, later, Florence & The Machine perform their greatest hits live on the iconic US music show.
They join a sizeable collection of music concert recordings from the Isle of Wight, which are available until 12th July, including Pharrell, Kaiser Chiefs, George Ezra, Liam Gallagher, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro, and a bunch of other sets ranging from Austin City Live and Live at Baloise sessions to other assorted gigs from around the world. Read on below for the full line-up.
Don’t have Sky? You can also stream Sky Arts live and on-demand legally on NOW, for £8.99 a month, with no contract and a 7-day free trial.
