Joel Edgerton is heading to Apple TV+ to star in Dark Matter, a new sci-fi series.
The nine-episode series is based on the hit book by Blake Crouch. The story follows Jason Dessen, a physicist, professor, and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.
Tolmach (“Jumanji” franchise, “Venom,” “Future Man”) will exec-produce for Matt Tolmach Productions alongside David Manpearl, with Crouch penning the pilot script and serving as showrunner and executive producer. Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me,” “Lupin,” “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”) will direct the first four episodes.
In front of the camera, meanwhile, will be Edgerton. Fresh from Disney+ Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi, he will play Jason and also serve as an exec-producer on the project. The series will be produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.
