Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray reunite for Apple and A24’s On the Rocks

16 years after Lost in Translation, Sofia Coppola is reuniting with Bill Murray for On the Rocks.
The 2003 drama earned Coppola an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, as well as a nomination for Best Director and Best Picture. Murray, meanwhile, was nominated for Best Actor. Their reunion isn’t the only notable partnership on the film, though: it also marks the first movie made by Apple and A24, after the two companies announced a multi-year production slate at the end of 2018 – a major feather in the content cap of the tech giant’s fledgling streaming video service.
On the Rocks follows a young mother who reconnects with her playboy father in New York. Rashida Jones will star with Murray.
Coppola will produce the project along with Youree Henley. Mitch Glazer and Roman Coppola are also on board as executive producers.
Coppola and Murray are no strangers to the world of streaming: they previously retrained on Netflix’s festive special A Very Murray Christmas, which Glazer and Roman Coppola also produced. Coppola and A24, meanwhile, previously partnered on The Bling Ring. Production on the film begins this spring in New York.
