Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter have been targeted. And people that I work with, may be involved in both. I’m federal agent Jack Bauer, and today is the longest day of my life.

That’s how Jack began all the way back in 2001, with the longest day of his life. But let’s be honest: he doesn’t know the meaning of the phrase. Not really. It’s one thing to save the world in 24 hours. It’s another thing to watch someone else do it – and then watch them do it again another seven times.

Yes, Kiefer Sutherland returns in Live Another Day on Wednesday 7th May on Sky 1, a fact that had at least four people at VODzilla.co excited, until we remembered that we hadn’t seen all of 24. The answer? A marathon of all of it, in one go. A Bauerthon.

24 was arguably the first show to encourage binge-viewing: its bite-sized chunks and constant cliffhangers meant that audiences were rewarded for watching the show in real-time. In an age of VOD, binge-viewing the whole thing is easier than ever, even if the lack of US TV adverts means that a day’s worth of events occurs in 18 hours, rather than the titular timespan.

In an era of House of Cards and Breaking Bad, does Jack Bauer still have a place? After 14 years, does binge-viewing Bauer thrill as much as it did then?

We’re going to find out. And in true 24 fashion (and to prove we actually did it), we’ll be live blogging the whole thing as it happens, from that moment when Jack Bauer picks his nose to that other moment when he stands up dramatically in his office.

Bauerthon begins this Easter weekend – starting at 12am Thursday. Ridiculous, long-winded, almost in real-time and at times downright exhausting, this is the longest day of our life.
