In The Santa Clause 3, Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is well into the swing of getting ready for Christmas and Mrs Claus (Elizabeth Mitchell) is heavily pregnant with little Baby Claus. As the preparations for Christmas start to fall behind, a meeting of The Council of Legendary Figures is called, including Mother Nature, Father Time, The Sandman, The Easter Bunny and Cupid.
The last of these figures is Jack Frost (Martin Short), a man who only really heralds the beginning of winter and is sick of being second best to Santa Claus, the one who people really get excited about at the end of the year. Frost then comes up with a plan to become Santa Claus and run Christmas himself.
In the North Pole, it would seem the entire place is run by children – the film itself was too, judging by the quality of it. Everything about it is unoriginal and uninteresting. Tim Allen and Martin Short go through the motions for this pointless sequel, and this is even more evident in the gag reel; usually a moment for seeing how much fun they had making the movie, it only further demonstrates how few laughs were available to edit together.
While it may not be a good film, there’s the correct sort of Christmas charm there for it to be enjoyed by the young ones – but there are plenty of better films out there with the same charm, plus an enjoyable plot.
The Santa Clause 3 is available on Disney+ UK, as part of a £7.99 monthly subscription or a £79.99 yearly subscription.
