White Fang, Netflix’s latest Sundance acquisition, pounces on the streaming service this weekend, and a new trailer gives us a taste of what’s in store.
This year’s indie festival enjoyed a quiet two weeks in Utah, with both Netflix and Amazon notably silent, after a 2017 that saw record deals signed in a rush to bag the next big awards contender. Weeks after the festival, though, Netflix inked a seven-figure deal for animated movie White Fang. Directed by Oscar winner Alexandre Espigares (Mr Hublot), and based on the classic story by Jack London, it tells events from the perspective of the wolf, exploring the relationship between humanity and nature. Set during the Gold Rush of the 1890s, the film follows the life of the eponymous wolf dog, who grows up from being a pup in the wild to the illegal dog-fighting pits of Fort Yukon. Recovering from his injuries, he finds kindness and friendship with two humans.
The film is available to worldwide on Netflix from Saturday 7th July. Here’s the video:
White Fang is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.

This yeah’s indie festival enjoyed a quiet two weeks in Utah, with both Netflix and Amazon notably silent, after a 2017 that saw record deals signed in a rush to bag the next big awards contender. Amazon secured Manchester by the Sea back in 2016, a deal that earned it the first major Academy Award for a streaming service, while Netflix nabbed Mudbound and Strong Island last year, both of which are in this year’s Oscars race.
Now, with the festival dust settled, Netflix is back at it again, with what Deadline reports is a seven-figure deal for animated movie White Fang. A co-production between Superprod, Bidibul Productions and Big Beach, it is produced by Clément Calvet, Jérémie Fajner, Lilian Eche, Christel Henon, Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf. The film boasts an impressive voice cast that includes Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti.
The filmmakers said in a statement: “We always wanted to bring this timeless and thrilling adventure story to as wide an audience as possible and Netflix’s expansive reach gives us that opportunity. Their passion for the film and commitment to its success is more than anything we could hope for.”
White Fang will be released on Netflix later this year.
