What’s leaving Netflix UK in October / November 2019?
David Farnor | On 23, Oct 2019
With the nights drawing in, it’s the perfect season to be camped out on your sofa in front of Netflix, but before you start loading up your next box set, don’t miss some gems slipping away into the long, dark evening of the digital void, as their rights expire and they depart the streaming service.
This is your last chance to stream the following on Netflix UK:
Brawl in Cell Block 99 – 25th October
Vince Vaughn is disturbingly good in this exceedingly violent thriller from S Craig “Bone Tamahawk” Zahler, which sees a recovering alcoholic and religious man sent to prison – only to be blackmailed into killing off an inmate in the high-security wing.
An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn – 28th October
Aubrey Plaza and Jemaine Clement shine in this follow-up to The Greasy Strangler from director Craig Hosking, which manages to be less gruesome but no less weird.
The Glass Castle – 29th October
Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson and Naomi Watts star in this drama about four siblings must learn to take care of themselves, co-adapted from Jeannette Walls’ memoirs by Marti Noxon. As one of them finds the fiery determination to carve out a successful life on her own terms, this is a powerful story of unconditional love.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy – 1st November
Because who doesn’t love an excuse for a Middle-earth marathon?
Selma – 1st November
David Oyelowo is unrecognisable as Martin Luther King in this stirring, powerful drama, which follows his historic march for voting rights in Alabama in 1965.
Snowpiercer – 1st November
Bong Joon-ho’s dazzling and daft dystopian satire is chillingly relevant, even years after its release.
Some Like It Hot – 1st November
“Nobody’s perfect!”
Capote – 5th November
Philip Seymour Hoffman delivers a remarkable performance in this biopic about the author researching the Clutter family murders for his landmark novel, In Cold Blood.
The Girl with All the Gifts – 5th November
Following a deadly fungal outbreak, survivors live in secure military bases while the infected roam outside as mindless, flesh-eating ‘hungries’. But children born to hungries are different – they can think. Although treated like dangerous animals, symptomatic youngsters like Melanie (newcomer Sennia Nanua) are key to any cure. So when the base is breached, Melanie finds herself accompanying her kindly teacher Helen (Gemma Arterton), chief scientist Caldwell (Glenn Close) and skeptical soldier Parks (Paddy Considine) on the ultimate survival mission. Eerie, intelligent, moving horror.
Loving VIncent – 5th November
This hand-painted portrait of Vincent Van Gogh is a breathtakingly unique piece of art.
River – 18th November
Stellan Skarsgård and Nicola Walker star in Abi Morgan’s superb BBC One crime drama about John River, a respected police officer haunted by the murder victims whose secrets he must uncover.
