As the end of April looms, it’s once again time to bid farewell to the TV shows and films whose rights are expiring on Amazon Prime Video. The good news is that the quantity of turnover is low, but the bad news is that the quality is quite high, from the likeable Veronica Mars movie spin-off to the impressive roster of DC comic book series and, most binge-watchable of all, the thrilling first season of Italian TV series Gomorrah.

Veronica Mars – 24th April

This feature-length spin-off from the TV series is a treat for Veronica Mars fans, but the strong performances (led by Kristen Bell) and likeable, witty dialogue means that newcomers aren’t left out of the fun either.

DC Animation – No Longer Being Removed

Once more, Amazon’s catalogue of DC animated comic book shows and films are about to disappear. With the last two months seeing Batman, Superman, the Justice League and co. all renewed to stop them flying away, there’s no guarantee they’ll firmly bid farewell at the end of April, although there’s also no guarantee that they’ll be kept on for another 30 days. Read on below for the full list. Update: They’ve been renewed once again, so breathe a super sigh of relief.

Gomorrah: Season 1 – 6th May

Sky’s first foreign language series, Gomorrah shows the inside story of the Naples mafia from the point of view of Ciro, the obedient right-hand man of the clan’s godfather. Gritty and realistic, it’s based on Robert Saviano’s book, which previously inspired the 2008 film of the same name.

Before I Go To Sleep – 11th May

Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong bring shades of grey – not those kind – to this psychological thriller, which sees a woman with no long-term memory struggling to work out what’s happening to her and whom she can trust. The result is aptly forgettable, but certainly entertaining.
