What’s leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in April / May 2018?
David Farnor | On 21, Apr 2018
On a sunny April weekend, why would you possibly want to stay indoors? Having an Amazon Prime Video account might give you several reasons, as the end of the month sees a large wave of movies depart from the streaming service. Some are underrated modern gems, such as Experimenter and Wild Bill, others are classics, such as Serpico and Ghost. Whether you’re looking for A Perfect Getaway or a Spielberg you haven’t seen, this is your last chance to stream the following on Amazon Prime Video UK:
Wild Bill – 22nd April
Dexter Fletcher’s East London Western about a dad who returns from prison to his Stratford home, where his kids are now growing up alone, is a mature, articulate and brilliant family drama – with a star-making performance from a young Will Poulter.
A Perfect Getaway – 24th April
Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and Timothy Olyphant star in David Twohy’s lean, mean gripping thriller about a couple whose trip to Honolulu goes violently wrong.
Munich – 27th April
One of Spielberg’s most underrated films, this 2005 thriller follows five men, who are chosen to hunt down and kill the terrorists responsible for taking 11 Israeli athletes hostage and murdering them following Munich’s 1972 Olympics.
Scrooged – 27th April
Bill Murray is hugely entertaining in this twisted take on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, which sees a cold-hearted TV exec discover the true meaning of the season. Maybe.
Serpico – 27th April
The incomparable Sidney Lumet began an unofficial trilogy examining corruption in the New York police with this true-life tale of Frank Serpico, an office who exposed one of the force’s biggest bent-cop scandals. Al Pacino is on stellar form.
Red Eye – 27th April
This underrated thriller from Wes Craven about a man (Cillian Murphy) who terrorises a hotel manager (Rachel McAdams) on a plane is a ruthlessly efficient ride.
Fatal Attraction – 27th April
Michael Douglas and Glenn Close star in this 80s erotic thriller about a jilted lover whose obsession boils over into stalking – a classic of its type.
Zoolander – 27th April
“I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking…”
Chinatown – 27th April
“There’s something black in the green part of your eye.” “Oh, that. It’s a… it’s a flaw in the iris.” This 1974 detective thriller starring Jack Nicholson is a classic, but its achievement is feeling like a classic from 30 years earlier.
A Beautiful Mind – 27th April
Russell Crowe is on award-winning form as troubled mathematician John Nash, who agrees to take on secret work for the government helping to crack codes.
Event Horizon – 27th April
This trashy sci-fi about a ship that goes beyond the boundary of space and human sanity combines Sam Neill’s unnerving stare and some strange visuals to truly freaky effect.
Clear and Present Danger – 27th April
When Harrison Ford isn’t playing the President in Air Force One, he’s the President’s top man in the field, CIA Analyst Jack Ryan. His task? Get revenge on the guy who killed the President’s best friend. Bombastic, patriotic, blockbusting fun.
Ghost – 27th April
Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore are on charming form in this classic romantic fantasy about a young banker who is killed, but returns to earth as a spirit to warn his lover of impending danger.
The Hunt for Red October – 27th April
Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin star in John McTiernan’s superb thriller about a rogue submarine, based on Tom Clancy’s novel of the same name.
The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! – 27th April
Leslie Nielsen brings Frank Drebin to the big screen with this Police Squad!-inspired franchise – and the result remains one of the funniest spoofs ever to hit celluloid. In his first feature outing, the incompetent cop must foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.
Experimenter – 28th April
Peter Sarsgaard is perfectly cast in this underseen and underrated drama about the work of Stanley Milgram. Read our full review
