What’s leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in January / February 2019?
James R | On 15, Jan 2019
As 2019 kicks into gear, it’s time to look forward at what’s in store for the year ahead – but, before that happens, it’s time to look back at what’s bidding goodbye, as a number of films leave your favourite subscription services. That means now’s the time to catch modern classics such as Before Midnight or finally get that Middle Earth marathon out of the way.
This is your last chance to stream the following on Amazon Prime Video UK:
Contagion – 16th January
Steven Soberbergh’s film about a plague spreading across the planet is not only scarily believable but grippingly tense, with a cast of dead A-Listers walking, from Gwyneth Paltrow to Matt Damon and Jude Law.
Before Midnight – 17th January
After seeing Ethan Hawkes’ Jesse and Julie Delpy’s Celine meet on a train in 1995, Richard Linklater’s second follow-up, Before Midnight, isn’t just the next chapter in their relationship or a deeply honest exploration of love and reality (unlike the majority of romantic comedies produced today) – it’s like catching up with old friends. When was the last time you could say that about a film?
Lord of the Rings – 18th January
Because it’s never a bad time to binge your way through Peter Jackson’s epic, jaw-dropping trilogy.
The Great Gatsby – 18th January
Baz Luhrmann’s take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tale of a flawless yet ultimately empty spectacle turns it into a flawless, yet ultimately empty spectacle.
Where the Wild Things Are – 18th January
It’s hard to know what Warner Bros. were expecting when they hired Spike Jonze to adapt Maurice Sendak’s beloved picture book, but what they got was less a kids’ movie and more a mature study of childhood, complete with strong adult cast (Catherine Keener, Paul Dano, James Gandolfini), stunning visuals and lots of furry beasts. Adorable, endearing and breathtakingly moving.
