“Peace has prevailed upon the universe. But that was 12 years ago…” That’s the sound of Ultraman returning on Netflix, and a new trailer gives us our first look at what’s in store.
The show was first announced earlier last year at Anime Expo, along with the renewal of popular series Aggretsuko for a second season, and now leads a growing line-up of Netflix original productions, including anime based on Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon, as well as cuter series such as Rilakkuma and Kaoru.
Ultraman is an action drama centred around a man possessing the spirit and DNA of the eponymous legendary hero, as he wears a metallic ultra suit and fights against evil. Years ago, the famous giant of light worked to protect peace on Earth. Now, a new champion arises: Shinjiro Hayata, a high-school student who must don the Ultra Suit and the worries that come with it. The son of the former Ultraman, he will become this generation’s new hero.
You can see him in action on Monday 1st April on Netflix. Here’s the trailer:
Ultraman is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.

Ultraman is heading to Netflix next April, and the streaming giant has given us our first look at the anime series.
The show was first announced earlier this year at Anime Expo, along with the renewal of popular series Aggretsuko for a second season, and now leads a growing line-up of Netflix original productions, including anime based on Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon, as well as cuter series such as Rilakkuma and Kaoru.
Ultraman is an action drama centred around a man possessing the spirit and DNA of the eponymous legendary hero, as he wears a metallic ultra suit and fights against evil.
Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” (Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
Produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital, it’s directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, with music by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi. It stars Ryohei Kimura, Takuya Eguchi, Megumi Han and Hideyuki Tanaka.
The series will premiere on Netflix on Monday 1st April 2019. Here’s the trailer:
