Mina Sundwall and Ignacio Serricchio join Netflix Lost in Space reboot

Mina Sundwall and Ignacio Serricchio have joined Netflix’s Lost in Space series, as the sci-fi reboot fills out its central cast.
The show, which is a re-imagining of the 1960s classic sci-fi, follows the spacefaring Robinsons family, who are forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
Toby Stephens and Molly Parker will star as John Robinson, leader of the expedition and father of the Robinson family, and Maureen Robinson, the mother of the Robinson family and aerospace engineer. Sense8’s Maxwell Jenkins will play Will Robinson, John’s son and Taylor Russell will play Will’s sister, Judy, with Parker Posey (pictured above) also signed on as Dr. Smith.
Now, the final pieces of the ensemble are falling into place. Mina Sundwall has signed on to play Penny Robinson, one of the Robinson’s children – a part played by Angela Cartwright in the original series.
Ignacio Serricchio, meanwhile, will play Don West, the rogue smuggler who finds an unexpected family home in the company of the Robinsons – a role originally played by Mark Goddard in the 1960s.
Sundwall recently starred in Maggie’s Plan with Ethan Hawke, and has appeared in Law & Order: SVU. Ignacio can be seen in a recurring role in Bones and Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce.
The all-new Lost in Space is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2018.
Parker Posey is Lost in Space’s Dr. Smith
23rd November 2016
Netflix is currently rebooting the classic 1960s sci-fi TV series Lost in Space as an epic family show. With Toby Stephens and House of Cards’ Molly Parker as the parental pair at the head of the Robinsons family, who jet off into space to colonise another planet, the reboot already had our curiosity. A new piece of casting, though, has firmly got our attention.
Parker Posey has signed on to play Dr. Smith in the remake of Irwin Allen’s classic. Dr. Smith, of course, is famous as the story’s chief antagonist: going with the family on the mission, SMith sabotaged the whole voyage and left the family, well, lost. In space. In the feature film version, which failed to take off either critically or commercially, the role was taken on by Gary Oldman, which gives you an idea of the kind of villainous gravitas involved.
Netflix’s show, though, is taking a more surprising turn, switching things up with Posey as Smith. Will she be a villain too? Or have they re-written the story completely? Either way, Posey, who has recently appeared in Christopher Guest’s Mascots (also on Netflix) and Woody Allen’s Cafe Society, just made this show even more intriguing.
The reboot is set to premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2018.
House of Cards’ Molly Parker will get Lost in Space
30th September 2016
Molly Parker will get Lost in Space with Netflix.
The actress has long been one of the star players in the streaming giant’s House of Cards as Jackie Sharp. Now, fresh from an Emmy nomination for her work, she’s heading back to Netflix to take the female lead in its reboot of the 1960s sci-fi series.
She will play Maureen Robinson, the mother of the Robinson family, who find themselves – spoiler alert – lost in space. The role was played by June Lockhart in the original, with Maureen proving a smart and brave aerospace engineer. Parker will play Mrs Robinson opposite Tony Stephens as John Robinson, father of the bunch and leader of the expedition.
Parker reunites with Netflix after a fling with Amazon, where she co-starred in David E. Kelley’s legal drama, Goliath, opposite Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt, which will premiere next month. Lost in Space will land in 2018.
Toby Stephens to star in Netflix’s Lost in Space
21st September 2016
Toby Stephens will star in Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot.
The show, which is a re-imagining of the 1960s classic sci-fi, follows the spacefaring Robinsons family, who are forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
Stephens, who is no stranger to steering lost ships, thanks to his years on Black Sails, has signed on to star as John Robinson, leader of the expedition and father of the Robinson family – a role that was originally played by Guy Williams on the small screen.
Stephens is joined by Sense8’s Maxwell Jenkins, who will play Will Robinson, John’s son – and the recently cast Taylor Russell as Will’s sister, Judy.
Taylor Russell to play Judy Robinson in Netflix’s Lost in Space
17th September 2016
Netflix’s reboot of Lost in Space has found its first cast member in the form of Taylor Russell.
Russell will play Judy, the daughter of the Robinson family, who first appeared on our screens way back in the 1960s. Irwin Allen’s series was set in the far-flung futuristic time of 1997 (the year the song Barbie Girl was released) and saw the Robinsons jet off into deep space to try and colonise another planet – only for Dr. Zachary Smith to sabotage the mission and leaving the rest, yes, lost. In space.
Netflix’s new version will re-imagine the journey of the spacefaring Robinsons, who will be “forced to come together in a time of crisis”. “Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons,” reads Netflix’s official synopsis.
While it’s not known how faithful the new show will be to the original line-up of characters – Doctors John and Maureen, their daughters, Judy and Penny, plus they son, Will, and pilot Don West – the casting of Russell, known for her role of Evelyn in Falling Skies, suggests that it won’t be venturing very far from the basic premise. Initially played by Marta Kristen in the 1960s, Heather Graham took on the part in the ill-fated 1998 feature-film remake.
The 10-episode revival, produced by Legendary, was announced by Netflix in June and is created by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter), with Zack Estrin (Prison Break) showrunning. The series will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2018.
New Lost in Space series coming exclusively to Netflix
30th June 2016
A reboot of Lost in Space is coming to Netflix.
The streaming giant has ordered a 10-episode first season of a reboot of the sci-fi drama. The one-hour show, from Legendary TV, is based on the beloved 1960s classic from Irwin Allen. Reimagined by feature writing team Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter), with Zack Estrin (Prison Break) showrunning, the series will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2018.
Taking its cues from the original series, the show centres around the Robinson family, who are forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
“Equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages,” promises Netflix.
Zack Estrin serves as executive producer alongside writers Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless; Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns (The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim); and The Descent director Neil Marshall ) and Marc Helwig. Marshall will also direct several episodes of the series.
“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world,” says Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content.
Netflix rebooting Lost in Space as epic family series
23rd November 2015
Lost in Space is being rebooted at Netflix as an epic new family series.
Irwin Allen’s 1965 sci-fi, set in the far-flung futuristic time of 1997 (the year that the song Barbie Girl was released), saw the Robinsons jet off into deep space to try and colonise another planet – only for Dr. Zachary Smith to sabotage the mission and leaving, yes, lost. In space.
After three seasons, the CBS series stopped, but it has been on the Hollywood back burner for some time. In 1998, Matt LeBlanc and Gary Oldman starred in a movie reboot that never quite lifted off. The following year, Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni formed Synthesis Entertainment with the aim of bringing back the show at NBC, but Jonathan Harris, who played Smith in the original series, passed away. In 2003, a pilot was written by Doug Petrie and directed by John Woo for Warner Bros., but never moved forward.
Now, Burns is back, exec producing a remake of the saga alongside writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Alongside Marc Helwig of Legendary TV and alongside Jashni (now Chief Creative Officer and President there), Burns and the team have been shopping their pitch. With The Descent’s Neil Marshall on board to direct, the show blasted into a bidding war, reports Deadline, with multiple contenders trying to nab the rights. Netflix, though, came out on top.
The show is described by the site as “epic but grounded”, with a straight-to-series order expected for the programme, as Netflix continues its push into large-scale family entertainment. The streaming giant is already working on an adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
