American Idol heads to Netflix UK this week, with Season 17 of the reality music contest.
The show revolutionised the US television landscape when it first aired, pioneering the music competition genre. The show has launched the careers of superstars Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry, among many others.
Helping to determine who will ultimately become the next singing sensation are music industry forces and superstar judges, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Ryan Seacrest, meanwhile, returns as host.
Amazon snapped up the rights to the programme in the UK last year, which launched on ABC in the USA to an overnight audience of 10.3 million, making it the number one show in its timeslot and more than doubling the slot average. Now, the show is jumping from Amazon to Netflix, with Season 17 set to premiere on the rival streaming service this year.
The first episode (Auditions, Part 1) will premiere on Tuesday 5th March, following its debut on Sunday 3rd March, which means you can expect it to arrive on Netflix UK two days after its US broadcast, with Episode 2 following on 8th March, Episode 3 on 12th March, Episode 4 on 19th March and Episode 5 on 20th March – concluding the Auditions phase.
American Idol: Season 17 is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
