Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer will star in Invasion, a new sci-fi thriller for Amazon Studios.
The film is decorated by Beast helmer Michael Pearce. Pearce, who won a BAFTA for his Outstanding Debut in 2019, has co-written the film with Joe Barton, the creator of three-time BAFTA TV nominee Giri/Haji.
The film follows two brothers who go on the run with the father, a decorated Marine (played by Riz Ahmed). Their father is trying to protect them from an unhuman threat, forcing the two boys to grow up and leave their childhood behind.
Amazon Studios has the worldwide rights to the project and is producing alongside Raw (American Animals) and Film4. The producers include Raw’s Dimitri Doganis (Three Identical Strangers), Piers Vellacott (American Animals) and Derrin Schlesinger (The Nest), with Film4’s Daniel Battsek, Ollie Madden and Julia Oh executive producing alongside Kate Churchill and Jenny Hinkey.
Ahmed is no stranger to Amazon, having just filmed Sound of Metal, which the online giant is releasing in the US. Spencer, meanwhile, is a streaming veteran, picking up her first Emmy nod this week for Netflix’s Self-Made: Inspired By The Life Of Madam CJ Walker, starring in Apple TV+ drama Truth Be Told and will soon be seen in Netflix’s Thunder Force.
Filming aims to take place in America later this year, coronavirus pandemic restrictions permitting.
