Netflix cancels The Midnight Club after one season

Netflix has cancelled The Midnight Club after only one season.
Based on the Christopher Pike book series, the horror show is set in a manor with a mysterious history, where 8 members of the titular group meet each night at 12am to tell sinister stories – and to look for signs of the supernatural from the beyond.
The show was co-created by Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong, with the cast including Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Shephard, William Chris Sumpter, Sauriyan Sapkota. It marked the first series aimed at younger viewers from Flanagan, who has been behind Netflix horror hits The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, with an overall deal at the streamer. The cancellation comes as Flanagan and exec producer Trevor Macy’s deal has ended, with them signing a new deal at Amazon Studios.
“This was designed to be ongoing,” Flangan told Variety ahead of The Midnight Club’s release in October. “I don’t know if it will. We’ll see how it goes and we probably won’t know for another month or so what Netflix wants to do. But it was very much designed to continue. Pike has 80 books, so we have a lot of unused material to pull from… We also didn’t answer some of the bigger questions of the season. Those answers exist, but were meant to be for the next season. If there isn’t one, I’ll put them up on Twitter. Then we’ll at least all be able to talk about it.”
