Netflix releases trailer for Inspector Gadget reboot

Netflix has released the first trailer for its reboot of Inspector Gadget.
The animated series about a gizmo-laden detective was a perennial kids’ favourite years ago. It’s not the first time the cyborg cop has been retooled, with a live-action feature film starring Matthew Broderick made by Disney in 1999. Now, Netflix is having a shoot, as it strives to become the go-to streaming service for your littl’uns.
The new version is a markedly different take on the familiar character. Produced by DHX Media, it’s a CGI animation of pastel colours as opposed to the almost anime-style frames of the original. Shuki Levy’s theme tune is also nowhere to be seen. The set-up, though, is much the same.
“HQ needs you back,” warns his boss, popping up in the middle of a golf course. “It seems Dr. Claw has returned.”
The evil doctor has reactivated his global crime syndicate, MAD, prompting Inspector Gadget and his niece, Penny, plus her dog, Brain, to save the day.
The new series consists of 26 episodes. It premieres exclusively in the US on Netflix this Friday (27th March) and will be released on Netflix UK after its initial broadcast on Boomerang.
