Netflix’s lockdown anthology Social Distance arrives this October, and a new trailer gives us our first look at its collection of stories.
Set in the initial months of the coronavirus pandemic, Social Distance is an eight-part anthology series that showcases the power of the human spirit in the face of uncertainty and isolation. Each standalone episode is told through a virtual lens and captures the unique emotional experience of being forced apart by circumstance and having no choice but to communicate remotely and rely on technology to maintain any sense of connection.
Through these varied and deeply human stories, it aims to provide some much-needed catharsis during a tumultuous time while also capturing a snapshot of this singular moment in history.
Created and executive-produced by showrunner Hilary Weisman Graham and executive-produced by Tara Herrmann, Blake McCormick and Jenji Kohan, the series stars Danielle Brooks, Mike Colter, Oscar Nunez, Guillermo Diaz, Asante Blackk, Lovie Simone, Marsha Stephanie Blake and more.
The series premieres on 15th October. Here’s the trailer:

Social Distance: Netflix orders lockdown anthology from Jenji Kohan
1st May 2020
Netflix is the latest to join the wave of broadcasters commissioning new series produced and filmed in lockdown. Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan will be producing a new anthology series called – naturally – Social Distance.
From the creative team behind Netflix’s hit prison drama, the series will capture the experience of living in this social distanced times. The series will be scripted and shot with crews working remotely and talent will film themselves, in a manner similar to ITV’s new series Isolation Stories, written by Jeff Pope.
“Our job as storytellers is to reflect reality, and in this new, bizarre, bewildering reality we are all experiencing, we feel passionate about finding connection as we all remain at a distance,” Kohan said in a statement.
“We’ve been inspired to create an anthology series that tells stories about the current moment we are living through — the unique, personal, deeply human stories that illustrate how we are living apart, together.”
“We are challenging ourselves to do something new,” Kohan added. “To create and produce virtually so that our cast and crew can stay healthy and safe. Writers never physically meet during the writing process. Our director, Diego Velasco, directs our talent remotely. Our showrunner, Hilary Weisman Graham, runs production from her living room. The cast not only acts but also films themselves at home.”
“Through a broad spectrum of tales and moments, some seismic and some mundane, we hope to capture a moment in time. And we hope that Social Distance will help people feel closer to one another.”
There is no word yet on a release date. ITV’s Isolation Stories will air from Monday 4th May.
