13: The Musical arrives on Netflix in August, and a new trailer gives us a first proper look at the Broadway musical’s adaptation.
After his parents’ divorce, Evan Goldman (Eli Golden) moves from NYC to small-town Indiana. As his 13th birthday nears, he must master the complex social circles of his new school and win friends by turning his Bar Mitzvah into the coolest party ever. Based on the hugely popular musical 13, which debuted on Broadway in 2008, 13: The Musical is a coming-of-age journey through the unforgettable ups and downs of preteen life.

Netflix finds cast for 13: The Musical

Netflix has found its cast of young stars for 13: The Musical.
The musical, which is a staple for high school theatre groups in the US, follows a move from New York City to small-town Indiana, as young Evan Goldman grapples with his parents’ divorce, prepares for his impending Bar Mitzvah, and navigates the complicated social circles of a new school.
The Broadway version featured the first and only all-teenager cast and band and served as professional debuts of Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies.
Tony Award winner Robert Horn will adapt the script based on the book he co-wrote with Dan Elish, and three-time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown will compose new music for the Netflix adaptation. Tamra Davis (Crossroads, High School Musical: The Series) is attached to direct.
Now, they’ve found the cast to bring the show to life in front of the camera, including Eli Golden, Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Wyatt Moss, Liam Wignall and Khiyla Aynne.
Neil Meron (Chicago, Hairspray) will produce, with exec-produces including Davis, Brown, Mark Nicholson, Bob Boyett and Horn.

13: The Musical is being adapted into a family film for Netflix.
The musical, which is a staple for high school theatre groups in the US, follows a move from New York City to small-town Indiana, as young Evan Goldman grapples with his parents’ divorce, prepares for his impending Bar Mitzvah, and navigates the complicated social circles of a new school.
The Broadway version of the show featured the first and only all-teenager cast and band and served as professional debuts of Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies.
Tony Award winner Robert Horn will adapt the script based on the book he co-wrote with Dan Elish, and three-time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown will compose new music for the Netflix adaptation. Earlier this year, Brown received a Tony Award for Tootsie, previously co-created the sitcom Partners starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence and penned the hit Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie.
Tamra Davis is attached to direct. Davis began her career directing music videos for acts such as Tone Loc, Sonic Youth and NWA before directing her first feature Guncrazy starring Drew Barrymore. She’s more recently known for her prolific TV work directing episodes of acclaimed shows including Empire, Santa Clarita Diet and Crazy Ex- Girlfriend.
