Netflix cancels Daybreak after one season

Daybreak has been cancelled by Netflix after one season.
Based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the dark comedy follows 17-year-old high school outcast Josh, who is searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in Glendale, California, after the world has ended. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits – including a pyromaniac 12 year old, Angelica, and Josh’s former high school bully, Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai – Josh tries to stay alive among the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), undead creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.
Co-created by Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key, Star Trek: Discovery, Heroes) and Brad Peyton (Rampage, Frontier), the show mixed Mad Max-style dystopia and samurai action with hormonal growing pains and Matthew Broderick. While the horror-comedy debuted on Netflix just in time for Halloween, though, the streaming giant has now officially decided that the audience reception was not big enough to warrant a renewal.
“No one is as heartbroken as we are that we can’t share more of this ride with you,” Coleite wrote in a statement on Twitter. “But we are so grateful to have gotten to bring it so far.”
I don't even know how to say this, so we prepared a small statement. Love you all. Thank you! pic.twitter.com/rKXWxuaaFh

Matthew Broderick joins Netflix’s Daybreak
21st October 2018
Matthew Broderick has joined the cast of Netflix’s apocalyptic high school series Daybreak.
Based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the subversive dramedy finds 17 year old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits – including a pyromaniac 12 year old, Angelica, and Josh’s former high school bully, Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai – Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.
The series is co-created by Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key, Star Trek: Discovery, Heroes) and Brad Peyton (Rampage, Frontier). Now, it’s got an equally impressive name in front of the camera, with comedy A-Lister Broderick enrolling to play Principal Burr. The cheerful, upbeat principal of Glendale High, Burr knows the name of every kid in school and their favorite character to play in Overwatch. In a hashtag-filled world of #metoo and #blacklivesmatter and #timesup, Burr is genuinely trying to be part of the solution: a good guy, an advocate and ally for all. But let’s face it, kids can be monsters.
Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the series.
