Trailer: Netflix’s Ghost in the Shell set for April release
David Farnor | On 28, Jan 2019
Netflix’s Ghost in the Shell will arrive in April, the streaming giant has confirmed, and the first full trailer gives us a proper look at the series – and its dramatically different look to what fans of the franchise are used to.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 was announced at the end of 2018, with a promising duo of directors at the helm: Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, who gave us Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. But fans have given the series a mixed reception so far, because of its decision to go with 3D CGI animation. While the story remains inspired by Shirow Masamune’s manga, the look is more the kind of thing associated with Pixar movies or video game cutscenes.
Set in the year 2045, after global capitalism has defaulted, the series follows Japan’s elite task force, Public Security Section 9, which begins conducting covert cyber operations. The new trailer gives us a look at the cast, from Major to Batou, as well as teasing the reorganisation of Section 9, a high-stakes rescue mission, a host of troops hacked because they all have the same cyberbrain upgrade and the evolution of technology from humans and cyborgs to something post-human.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 premieres on Netflix in April, with an exact date not yet confirmed. Watch this space for more. Until then, here’s the trailer:

The first trailer has landed for Netflix’s new Ghost in the Shell anime.
Called Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, it was announced at the end of last year, with a promising duo of directors at the helm: Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, who gave us Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
The trailer only contains a small glimpse of footage, but makes it clear what kind of visual style to expect from the series, which uses 3DCG animation to take us back into the world of Shirow Masamune’s manga.

The anime will premiere on Netflix in 2020. Here’s the video:
Netflix green-lights new Ghost in the Shell anime
8th December 2019
Netflix has given the green light to a new Ghost in the Shell anime.
The streaming giant is no stranger to anime, and keeps on investing in bigger and bigger projects. Not only is it about to debut Evangelion in 2019, but it’s also ordered two new anime series based on Altered Carbon and Pacific Rim, and even has a live-action version of popular anime Cowboy Bebop on the way. Now, it’s dropped another major project out of the blue: a new entry in the titan that is the Ghost in the Shell franchise.
We don’t know yet whether it will be a film or a TV series, but what we do know is that it will be called Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and directed by Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki, alongside Kenji Kamiyama, who gave us Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Judging by the brief, but intriguing, tweet published by Netflix announcing the news, it will continue the franchise’s exploration of the true meaning of human consciousness.
