Halle Berry will star in The Mothership for Netflix.
The Academy Award winning actress is no stranger to the streamer, with Netflix picking up her directorial debut, Bruised, in which she also stars. Now, she’s set to headline a new movie from the company, which she will also exec-produce.
The sci-fi adventure follows Sara Morse (Halle Berry) one year since her husband mysteriously vanished from their rural farm. When she discovers a strange, extraterrestrial object underneath their home, Sara and her kids embark on a race to find their husband, father and most importantly – the truth.
The film marks the directorial feature debut of Matthew Charman, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his Bridge of Spies screenplay with Joel and Ethan Cohen.
Netflix and MRC Film have partnered on the project, with Fred Berger (La La Land, Bad Education, Destroyer) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Midnight Special, Outside the Wire) of Automatik on board to produce, and Danny Stillman set to exec-produce alongside Berry.
MRC Film most recently released Knives Out from Rian Johnson and The Lovebirds starring Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae with Netflix.
