Netflix is getting the Banks family back together for a Father of the Bride reunion this Friday.
The iconic family comedy, which starred Steve Martin, follows George Banks, an ordinary, middle-class man whose 21 year-old daughter Annie has decided to marry a man from an upper-class family – but George can’t think of what life would be like without his daughter.
The movie was first released back in 1991, with Martin joined on screen by Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams, Martin Short and Kieran Culkin.
Now, 25 years later, Netflix has announced that “a very special event” that will reunite the Banks family. We don’t know for sure which of the film’s original cast members will be involved, but we do know that Nancy Meyers is back writing and directing.
“If he thought a wedding was a lot, how would he react to 2020?” teased Meyers on Instagram recently.
The special will be held in support of World Central Kitchen, which provides meals for families impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. It follows a number of other reunions and online specials that have been held in aid of World Central Kitchen, including a Community cast table read, a Dead to Me table read and Quibi’s home movie remake of The Princess Bride.
The reunion will take place on YouTube as well as Netflix at 3pm PT/6pm ET on Friday 25th September, which works out as 11pm UK time. The original film, meanwhile, is available to stream on Sky Cinema and NOW.
