Jacob Tobia has joined the cast of She-Ra for the upcoming Season 4.
Tobia, a non-binary writer, producer and performer, will play Double Trouble, a non-binary shape-shifting mercenary who rises through the ranks of the Horde.
Tobia announced the news in a video on Twitter, joking that they are functionally playing themselves.
“Ever since I was a child, I’ve dreamed of playing a nonbinary, shapeshifting goblin-elf-princess and now I can say I’ve done it!” they said.
The casting marks another positive, progressive step for Netflix’s reboot of the classic franchise, which tells the story of an orphan named Adora (Aimee Carrero), who leaves behind her former life in the evil Horde when she discovers a magic sword that transforms her into the mythical warrior princess She-Ra. Along the way, she finds a new family in the Rebellion as she unites a group of magical princesses in the ultimate fight against evil.
From Eisner Award-winning author and executive producer Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes, Nimona) and executive producer Chuck Austen (Dawn of the Croods, Steven Universe) comes a modern take on the 1980s girl power icon for a new generation of young fans.
“Quite simply, She-Ra is magical, offering the kind of representation other shows often try, and fail, to achieve with ease – and with characters you can’t help but fall in love with,” we wrote in our review of the show.
Season 4 premieres on Netflix on 5th November 2019. Read on below for the trailer.
