Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem are bursting back onto our screens this May, and a new trailer gives us a first look at The Muppets Mayhem in action.
The Disney+ series follows The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora Singh (Lilly Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face-to-face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.
Joining the band will be a host of human talent, including guest star Anders Holm, Tahj Mowry, Saara Chaudry, Sofia Carson, Morgan Freeman, Kesha, Lil Nas X, Chris Stapleton, Paula Abdul, Steve Aoki, Rachel Bloom, Nicole Byer, deadmau5, Kesha, Tommy Lee, Cheech Marin, Kristen Schaal, Ben Schwartz, Danny Trejo, Joe Lo Truglio, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Zedd.
The project was developed and written by executive producers Adam F Goldberg (“The Goldbergs”), Bill Barretta (“The Muppets,” “Muppets Haunted Mansion”) and co-executive producer Jeff Yorkes. Michael Bostick, Kris Eber and The Muppets Studio’s David Lightbody and Leigh Slaughter also serve as executive producers. The original music is by executive music producer and Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry, with the soundtrack available on streaming platforms from 10th May. The band’s debut album, The Electric Mayhem, is set for release on vinyl on 12th May.
The series, meanwhile, will debut on Disney+ on 10th May, with all episodes available at once.
Disney+ hits play on The Muppets Mayhem
12th March 2022
It’s time to play the music all over again as Disney+ is striking up the band for a new Muppets series.
The Muppets Mayhem will see the Electric Mayhem Band take centre stage for the first time, following the group as they record their first ever album. The Muppets house band have been entertaining audiences since The Muppet Show, which debuted 45 years ago, even playing a set during the second half of The Muppets’ recent live stadium tour. The group’s line-up includes Dr Teeth (Bill Barretta) on vocals and keyboards, Animal (Eric Jacobson) on drums, Floyd Pepper (Matt Vogel) on vocals and bass, Janice (David Rudman) on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot (Dave Goelz) on saxophone and Lips (Peter Linz) on trumpet.
Lilly Singh (A Little Late with Lilly Singh, Dollface) will play the (human) lead role of Nora, the junior A&R executive tasked with managing and wrangling the Electric Mayhem. After 45 years of rockin’ out, the band will go on an epic musical journey, coming face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.
The series was developed by Adam F Goldberg, Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes based on characters created by Jim Henson. It is written by Adam F Goldberg (The Goldbergs), Bill Barretta (The Muppets, Muppets Haunted Mansion) and Jeff Yorkes, the executive producers are Goldberg, Barretta, Michael Bostick and Kris Eber. Yorkes is a co-executive producer. The Muppets Studio’s David Lightbody and Leigh Slaughter are also executive producers.
“The Muppets are renowned for quality, creativity and unrivaled, fun storytelling for the whole family,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We are thrilled to have Adam, Bill and Jeff at the helm to bring all of these iconic and great new characters to life in fresh and dynamic ways.”
“Adam F Goldberg is our resident Muppet enthusiast at Signature and getting to play in the sandbox with Bill, a longtime Muppet performer, as well as these beloved characters was a dream come true for him, Bill and Jeff,” commented Jonnie Davis, President at ABC Signature. “Their take is fresh, fun, musical and of course, hilarious. We couldn’t be happier to be the studio that is helping them get the band back together.”
The series is the latest Muppets project to emerge from Disney+, following the Halloween special Muppets Haunted Mansion and the short-form series Muppets Now.
