The Dropout: Amanda Seyfried plays Elizabeth Holmes in Disney+ drama

How did a Stanford dropout become one of Silicon Valley’s most notorious CEOs? That’s the question at the heart of The Dropout, a new Disney+ drama telling the story of Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes.
The drama stars Amanda Seyfriend as Elizabeth Holmes, the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, who lost it all in the blink of an eye. An unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong, it’s based on the podcast The Dropout by Rebecca Jarvis and ABC Audio and executive produced by showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether, Liz Heldens, Liz Hannah, Katherine Pope, Rebecca Jarvis, Victoria Thompson, and Taylor Dunn, with Michael Showalter directing multiple episodes and serving as an executive producer.
It’s not the only project looking at the rise and fall of Holmes, whose blood-testing start-up Theranos claimed to be able to run blood tests on just a few drops from a finger prick. When it emerged that the devices were inaccurate, the scandal ultimately led Holmes to be charged with defrauding investors, with her sentencing taking place just a couple of weeks ago. Apple TV+ will also be charting the story in Bad Bloods, with Jennifer Lawrence set to star in the film written and directed by Adam McKay.
Hulu’s star-studded series is out of the gates first, though, with the cast also including Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani, plus guest stars Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Stephen Fry, Michel Gill, LisaGay Hamilton, William H Macy, Elizabeth Marvel, Laurie Metcalf, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterson and Michaela Watkins.
You can see them in action on 3rd March, when the first three episodes premiere on Disney+ in the UK, as part of the adult-friendly Star section, followed by new episodes weekly.
