“Vikings are preparing for an invasion.” “What do you intend to do?” “Fight.” That’s the sound of conflict brewing, as Netflix prepares to set sail into Vikings territory – and a new trailer for Vikings: Valhalla promises action-packed conflict galore.
The follow-up to History’s hit original series begins in the early 11th century and chronicles the legendary adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson) and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). As tensions between the Vikings and the English royals reach a bloody breaking point and as the Vikings themselves clash over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs, these three Vikings begin an epic journey that will take them across oceans and through battlefields, from Kattegat to England and beyond, as they fight for survival and glory
the show is exec-produced by creator Michael Hirst, alongside fellow EPs Jeb Stuart, Morgan O’Sullivan, James Flynn, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, Sheila Hockin and John Weber. Stuart will serve as showrunner and writer, with other writers including Vanessa Alexander, Declan Croghan and Eoin McNamee.

You can see them in action on on 25th February, when it premieres on Netflix – and judging by the new trailer, there’ll be plenty of action on an ambitious, epic scale. Here’s the video:

Jarl Kåre presents a threat to the old pagan ways.
Netflix orders Vikings follow-up series Valhalla from Michael Hirst
20th November 2020
Vikings and its creator, Michael Hirst, are heading to Netflix for a new follow-up series.
Vikings: Valhalla is a new original series that continues the storytelling of Hirst’s epic Vikings saga.
The new saga begins 100 years after the original series concludes and dramatises the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant). These men and women will blaze new paths as they fight for survival in an ever changing and evolving Europe. This is the explosive next chapter of the Vikings legend.
Executive Producers include Michael Hirst (Vikings, The Tudors), Jeb Stuart (The Fugitive, Die Hard, The Liberator) and Morgan O’Sullivan (Vikings, Penny Dreadful).
Hirst says: “I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our Vikings saga. I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix. Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new story-lines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history.”
The series is something of a coup for Netflix, with the History channel’s epic snapped up as an exclusive in the UK for Amazon Prime Video.
Steve Stark, MGM’s President of Television Production and Development, adds: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael, Morgan, Jeb and Netflix on the next chapter in the incredible Vikings universe. Valhalla has been a labor of love for everyone involved and as we look ahead to the continuation of this great saga, we are excited to know that fans the world over will have the opportunity to continue with the series on its new home at Netflix.”
