Watch: New clip from Marvel’s Moon Knight
James R | On 19, Mar 2022
“What’s going on…?” That’s the sound of Oscar Isaac getting increasingly disoriented in a clip from Marvel’s Moon Knight – and not just because of his strange London accent.
The series sees Isaac step into the shoes of Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
Isaac is joined on screen by Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy, while Mohamed Diab and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are directing from scripts by head writer Jeremy Slater. The new clip gives us a taste of what to expect, with mind-bending confusion on the cards – whether or not it’s also a sensitive exploration of DID will become clear on 30th March, when the series premieres on Disney+, with episodes arriving weekly. Here’s the new clip – read on fo the full trailer:
Trailer: Moon Knight debuts on Disney+ this March
19th January 2021
Moon Knight will land on Disney+ this March, and a new trailer gives us a first proper look at the Marvel series.
The show stars Oscar Isaac Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
Isaac is joined on screen by Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy, but it’s the talent behind the camera that’s perhaps even more exciting: Mohamed Diab and the team of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead directed the episodes, while Jeremy Slater is the head writer.
Isaac, Slater and Diab exec-produce, alongside Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Brad Winderbaum. Grant Curtis, Trevor Waterson and Rebecca Kirsch serve as co-executive producers.
The trailer and poster debuted during the NFL Super Wild Card matchup last night and, while the accents on display might be subject to some scrutiny, Marvel will be hoping fans will embrace the chaos on all fronts. The series premieres on 30th March. Here’s the video:
Ethan Hawke joins cast of Marvel’s Moon Knight
16th January 2021
Ethan Hawke has reportedly joined the cast of Marvel’s Moon Knight series.
The Disney+ show follows former boxer and US marine Marc Spector, who finds himself offered up to an ancient god of the moon after a mission in Egypt went wrong and left him for dead. Given a second life, he struggles with multiple personalities and amoral inclinations to fight on against all odds as the cloaked avenger Moon Knight.
The show jumped to the top of Marvel’s most exciting projects when Oscar Isaac was announced as the lead hero. The talent behind the camera is equally impressive, with Clash helmer Mohamed Diab and The Endless duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead all set to direct episodes, and Jeremy Slater on board as head writer.
With production aiming to start in Budapest this March, Marvel’s now rounding out the other roles in the show, with Ramy’s May Calamawy recently joining to play a key character. Now, the show’s got some added star power with Ethan Hawke signing on.
Despite sci-fi outings such as Gattaca, Explorers and Predestination, the Before Sunrise and First Reformed star has so far avoided the comic book genre. Now making his Marvel debut, THR reports that he will play the show’s villain opposite Isaac’s hero.
While more details than that are scarce, Moon Knight’s nemesis is traditionally Bushman, a former mercenary who worked with Knight, but ended up his enemy when Egyptian gold entered the frame. Bushman’s powers include metal teeth, weaponry skills and peak human strength and agility.
May Calamawy joins Marvel’s Moon Knight series
14th January 2021
May Calamawy will star alongside Oscar Isaac in Marvel’s Moon Knight series.
Isaac is already aboard in the lead role and now, he’s got company, with Calamawy signing on. Calamawy is best known for playing Ramy’s sister in the STARZPLAY series of the same name, which was recently renewed for a third season. She will soon be seen in Together Together alongside Ed Helms.
She will play a “key role” in Moon Knight, THR reports, although any further details are being kept closely under wraps. What we do know is that she’s likely to be filming in March in Budapest, with Clash helmer Mohamed Diab and The Endless duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead all set to direct episodes. Jeremy Slater is head writer.
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead join Marvel’s Moon Knight
9th January 2021
Indie directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have joined Marvel’s Moon Knight series.
The genre filmmakers, who have helmed such gems as Spring and The Endless, will soon return to UK screens with their latest mind-bending thriller, Synchronic. Just before that release, though, they’ve already got their next project lined up: Marvel’s latest Disney+ show.
First announced in 2019, Moon Knight follows former boxer and US marine Marc Spector, who finds himself offered up to an ancient god of the moon after a mission in Egypt went wrong and left him for dead. Given a second life, he struggles with multiple personalities and amoral inclinations to fight on against all odds as the cloaked avenger Moon Knight.
Jeremy Slater has been on board the project since it was announced as head writer, while Oscar Isaac is set to star. THR reports that Benson and Moorhead direct multiple episodes of the series, while Mohamed Diab (Clash) will be at the helm for most of the other episodes.
The pair are known for their signature low-budget style and auteur-like approach, particularly in an age where a lot of independent filmmakers are recruited by big studios such as Marvel.
“A lot of stuff comes out in theatres that we’ve turned down,” Aaron told us in an interview for The Endless in 2018. “It feels cool because it’s like ‘Well that’s worse than if we did it, and it would’ve been bad if we’d done it!’ Except for a few occasions, when it’s better than what we would have done, because they understood it in a way where we saw something easy and boring, they saw something everyone’s gonna love, which we didn’t.”
“If you asked me to make Godzilla run around, I would not be able to do it,” he added. “We only want to make a movie that we can make 100% of the way. Like, Justin literally wrote me an email and said: Tell me all the stuff you’re good at. And I just wrote him a list and it was just ‘Here’s your toolkit, you can grab from this whenever you want.’”
Production on Moon Knight is expected to begin in Budapest in March.
Oscar Isaac in talks for Marvel’s Moon Knight
26th October 2020
Oscar Isaac is reportedly in talks to star in Marvel’s Disney+ series Moon Knight.
The show, which was first announced last summer, follows former boxer and US marine Marc Spector, who finds himself offered up to an ancient god of the moon after a mission in Egypt went wrong and left him for dead. Given a second life, he struggles with multiple personalities and amoral inclinations to fight on against all odds as the cloaked avenger Moon Knight.
Jeremy Slater has been on board the project since it was announced as head writer. Slater, who also penned 2015’s Fantastic Four, is no stranger to the small screen, adapting The Exorcist for two seasons and the manga Death Note for Netflix.
Now, Marvel looks to have found its star, with Variety reporting that Isaac in talks for the show. It would mark a reunion between Marvel and the Star Wars and Inside Llewyn Davis star, having playing Apocalypse in the X-Men sequel of the same name.
If everything is signed and sealed as expected, Isaac’s Moon Knight joins a run of Disney+ Marvel series getting their ducks in order, with Tatiana Maslany reportedly set to star in She-Hulk and newcomer Iman Vellani set to star in Ms Marvel. WandaVision will be the first of the MCU’s small screen outings to land on our screens later this year, followed by Loki and Falcon and the Winter Soldier at some point in 2021. A solo series for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is also in the works.
