Riverdale remains the most-watched TV series and title overall on Netflix UK.

The CW’s teen drama recently released its third season finale, which we praised for taking the show into ever crazier territory.

“What on earth is going on? Time will tell,” we wrote in our review of the finale. “But one thing is certain: Riverdale is going from strength to strength.”

Fans in the UK evidently agree, with the season’s concluding chapter seeing the series leapfrog new Netflix title Dead to Me and taking the top spot on Netflix’s weekly chart of most popular titles. The Society and Lucifer, also recent premieres, are the third and fourth most-watched TV shows on the streaming service.

Also hitting its finale is RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11, which is the second most-watched reality series on Netflix from the last week, just behind Jailbirds. In non-English-language titles, The Rain, which recently debuted its second season, is the most popular show.

Our Planet, meanwhile, stayed the number one doc on the site, followed once again closely by Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, boosted, no doubt, by the release of the Zan Efron Bundy movie in cinemas.

Netflix subscribers appear to wait for some movies to come on the service before watching, though – or enjoy re-watching old favourites – as The Fate of the Furious ranked as the most-watched film on the service, and the third most-watched title overall, even drawing more views this week than recent Amy Poehler Netflix movie Wine Country (the most-watched movie of last week).

Netflix’s data is being released weekly for the UK only, as a new experiment to see if users find the regular round-up a useful indication of what’s trending. The figures, of course, should be taken with a pinch of salt: Netflix’s count for a “viewer” is anyone who completes at least 70 per cent of one episode of a TV series or 70 per cent of a film – an indication, perhaps, of how much time people typically spend watching a single title on Netflix, or of how value attention spans have become in a competitive online age. Nonetheless, they highlight how much of an impact each new release makes, as word of mouth builds among subscribers.

Dead to Me and Riverdale are the most popular titles on Netflix UK this week, the streaming giant’s latest official figures reveal.

Netflix has always been famously closely guarded about its viewing figures, but has recently begun to release statistics for key new titles, mostly films, as it looks to build on Roma’s success at the Oscars and position itself as a major, established player in the feature film business. At the same time, it’s also now experimenting with releasing lists of the most popular titles on Netflix UK each week, to see if users find the regular round-up a useful indication of what’s trending.

The figures, of course, should be taken with a pinch of salt: Netflix’s count for a “viewer” is anyone who completes at least 70 per cent of one episode of a TV series or 70 per cent of a film – an indication, perhaps, of how much time people typically spend watching a single title on Netflix, or of how value attention spans have become in a competitive online age. Nonetheless, they highlight how much of an impact each new release makes, as word of mouth builds among subscribers.

Last week, that mostly applied to Dead to Me, Netflix’s new series starring Christina Applegate, which was the most watched film or TV on the site. It was followed by Riverdale, as The CW’s teen series reaches its final episodes. New arrival Lucifer, resurrected post-cancellation for a fourth season, also found a following among fans, ranking as the third most popular title last week. The most popular film, and fourth most popular title overall, was Wine Country, Amy Poehler’s directorial debut. With Line of Duty Season 5 finishing on BBC One, the previous seasons of the show also crept into the top 10 most watched TV series, as viewers played catch up with th addictive cop thriller.
