Ricky Gervais has inked an overall deal with Netflix.
The comedian, actor, writer and producer has had a long-running relationship with the streamer, which just released a second season of his comedy series After Life. He also recently starred in The Willoughbys, a family animation for the service, and previously delivered comedy movie Special Correspondents and comedy special Humanity. David Brent: Life on the Road, which saw The Office creator reprise his role as David Brent, was also snapped up by Netflix.
Now, hot on the heels of After Life being renewed for Season 3, Gervais is also expanding his relationship with Netflix with a new overall deal. The multi-year agreement will see him develop new scripted series and stand-up specials for the streamer, in addition to the third season of After Life. THR reports the deal is in the eight-figure region.
“I was planning to retire soon and just wander around the house drunk until I die, but I’ve grown a bit tired of doing that during the lockdown, and also Netflix made me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Gervais said in a statement.
Gervais joins a line-up of talent with overall deals at Netflix that includes Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes.
