Top Boy returns to Netflix this March

Ashley Walters (Bulletproof, Small Island), Kane Robinson, Micheal Ward (The A List, Blue Story), Simbi Ajikawo ‘Little Simz’ will reprise their roles in the new season. They will be joined by Jasmine Jobson (Lie Low, Obey) returning as Jaq, Lisa Dwan (Trust) as Lizzie, Kadeem Ramsay (Sex Education, Blue Story) as Kit, Saffron Hocking (London Kills, White Gold) as Jaq’s sister Lauryn, Jolade Obasola as Amma, and Hope Ikpoku (Bulletproof) and Araloylin Oshunremi (Heartstopper) as Jamie’s brother’s Aaron and Stef.
New cast for this second season of Netflix’s revival will include Josephine De La Baume (A Very Secret Service), Howard Charles (Shadow and Bone), Erin Kellyman (The Green Knight), as well as rap and grime artist ‘NoLay’ (Natalie Athanasiou) and Adwoa Aboah, marking her acting debut.
Season 2 sees Dushane (Walters) on a roll. He won the war against the young pretender Jamie (Ward), leaving his Summerhouse crew unrivaled in the end and making more money than ever. Life with Shelley (Ajikawo) is going well too and allows him to dream of a future away from the road. But then a problem from an unexpected quarter arises and threatens to bring it all crashing down. Meanwhile, Sully (Robinson) is trying to find peace and get his life back on track. But when family comes calling he’s forced to ride back into the only world he knows.
While Stef (Oshunremi) tries to understand the events of Season 1, Dushane’s offer to Jamie causes restlessness within the gang. There’s a lot of bad feeling and a lot of tension. There will be consequences.
Top Boy 2 is executive produced by the original creative team — Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind (for Cowboy Films), Ronan Bennett (for Easter Partisan) and Yann Demange. The series is executive produced by multi-faceted entertainer and producer Drake and his business partner Adel “Future” Nur, along with LeBron James, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson for The SpringHill Company.
Season 2 will premiere on 18th March, with all 10 episodes arriving at once.
Netflix’s Top Boy officially renewed for Season 2
27th February 2020
Netflix has officially renewed its Top Boy revival for a second season.
The drama, which originally ran for two seasons on Channel 4, returned last year, after the streaming giant picked up the series for a third run, six years after it was last on our screens.
Ashley Walters (Bulletproof, Sugarhouse) and Kane Robinson reprised their roles as Dushane and Sully, joined by newcomer Micheal Ward as Jamie (The A List, Blue Story). It picked up as Dushane returned from exile to London’s Hackney Town to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teamed up with Sully, his spiritual brother, partner and sometime rival, who also returned to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – came to an end. They went head-to-head with Jamie (Micheal Ward), a young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions left no place for the pair.
The 10 episodes were written once again by the show’s creator, Ronan Bennett, alongside Daniel West. The series was executive produced by the original creative team – Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind (for Cowboy Films), Ronan Bennett (for Easter Partisan) and Yann Demange, plus Drake, who helped to bring the revival about in the first place.
The show’s return was a hit, ranking among Netflix’s most watched titles in 2019, with Michael Ward also earning a BAFTA Rising Star Award – voted for by the public – at the start of 2020. Now, after Drake appeared to suggest a fourth season of Top Boy on Instagram, Netflix has officially announced the series is coming back for another run.
“We’re back,” tweeted the show’s official account. “TOP BOY Season 2 begins filming this spring. @AshleyWalters82, @TheRealKano, @onlymikes_ and @LittleSimz will return as Dushane, Sully, Jamie and Shelley. Stay tuned.”
A picture of a script also revealed that the first episode of the new season will be called “Killing No Murder”.
