Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton are heading to Amazon Prime Video this April for spy thriller All the Old Knives – and a new trailer gives us a look at them in action.
Based on the 2015 novel of the same title by Olen Steinhauer, the modern-day espionage tale follows Henry (Chris Pine) as he investigates Celia (Thandiwe Newton), a past flame from their days as CIA intelligence officers in Vienna, who is now under suspicion of having been a double agent. Using flashbacks to weave together multiple timelines, All the Old Knives peels back the layers of their past romance and exposes the truth behind a terrorist attack they were unable to stop.
Jonathan Pryce and Laurence Fishburne will co-star and ZeroZeroZero and Borg vs McEnroe director Janus Metz is at the helm. You can track the ensuing carnage on 8th April, when the film premieres on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s the trailer:
Jonathan Pryce and Laurence Fishburne join Amazon’s All the Old Knives
21st November 2020
Jonathan Pryce and Laurence Fishburne have joined the cast of Amazon Studios thriller All the Old Knives.
The film is based on the 2015 novel of the same title by Olen Steinhauer. It follows Henry and Celia, former lovers and colleagues who used to work for the CIA station in Vienna six years ago – until terrorists hijacked a plane at the airport. A rescue attempt, staged from the inside, went terribly wrong. Everyone on board was killed.
That night has continued to haunt all of those involved; for Henry and Celia, it brought to an end their relationship. Celia decided she’d had enough; she left the agency, married and had children, and is now living an ordinary life in the Californian suburbs. Henry is still a CIA analyst, and has travelled to the US to see her one more time, to relive the past, maybe, or to put it behind him once and for all. But neither of them can forget that question: had their agent been compromised, and how?
Steinhauer has adapted the script, with ZeroZeroZero and Borg vs McEnroe director Janus Metz at the helm. The film was announced earlier this year, with Chris Pine and Thandie Newton on board to star. Now, they’ve got company, with Pryce and Fishburne joining the cast.
Pryce is no stranger to streaming, having starred in Netflix’s The Two Popes, while Fishburne starred in Quibi series #Freerayshawn.

Chris Pine and Thandie Newton are headed to Amazon Studios, after the online giant has boarded their new thriller, All the Old Knives.

Steinhauer has adapted the script himself, with ZeroZeroZero and Borg vs McEnroe director Janus Metz at the helm. With Chris Pine and Thandie Newton attached, it’s no surprise that Amazon Studios has come on board to produce the spy flick.
Amazon will produce the film with Chockstone Pictures (Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz) and Nick Wechsler Productions (Nick Wechsler) in association with Entertainment One (eOne) and Matt Jackson through his Jackson Pictures. Pine will exec produce through his Barry Linen Productions, along with Joanne Lee of Jackson Pictures and Kate Churchill of Churchill Films. Richard Hewitt and Mark Gordon will also exec produce.
