Circus of Books: Netflix nabs Tribeca documentary

Netflix has nabbed new documentary Circus of Books, which premiered at Tribeca this weekend.
How do you explain to your friends that your mom and pop run a gay pornography shop? That’s the question director Rachel Mason asks with the film. Turning the camera on her parents and siblings, Mason explores the contradictions of growing up in an unconventional household where her mom could be found volunteering at her synagogue or re-stocking issues of Hand Job Magazine.
It’s an attention-grabbing premise for a film, so much so that the streaming giant picked up the global rights before its world premiere in the Feature Documentary section at 2019’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Ryan Murphy, Josh Braun, John Battsek, Rhianon Jones and Gerald Herman are executive producers, with Murphy no stranger to Netflix, following his multi-year overall deal with the VOD company.
The film will be released on Netflix on Wednesday 22nd April 2020.
Circus of Books is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
