We’re heading to Indonesia this April, thanks to Shudder. This month sees the premiere of the horror subscription service’s latest TV series: Halfworlds, a fantastical thriller that mixes Western horror with Eastern spiritualism – not to mention the modern world of Jakarta with a parallel universe of monsters. If it’s anything like Beyond the Walls, the last series Shudder acquired, this is set to be a very interesting month indeed.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Shudder UK in April 2017:
Halfworlds – 6th April
HBO Asia’s wildly imaginative thriller is the first Indonesian, English-speaking TV series to be released in the UK. Guillermo Del Toro meets Asian genre cinema, the show is the brainchild of rising genre filmmaker Joko Anwar.
The show is set in present-day Jakarta, where Sarah, a street artist, lifts the veil on a parallel world of bloodthirsty creatures from Indonesian mythology, who have lived amongst humans for centuries. They are known simply as “Demit” and have been carefully concealed by a powerful family of mortals. Once the Demit find out who Sarah really is, and what she must do, the balance between the two worlds will be shaken forever. For more information, click here.
We Are the Flesh – 20th April
Too full-on for other streaming platforms, Shudder is proud to exclusively present Mexican director Emiliano Rocha Minter’s We Are the Flesh.
Championed by Oscar-winning director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu and Carlos Reygadas, the film pushes extreme cinema to its breaking point, plunging head-first into a post-apocalyptic world, where brother and sister Lucio and Fauna stumble upon a man, who makes them a dangerous offer to survive the outside world. As they help him transform his surroundings into a womb-like cave, a disquieting sexual relationship emerges, along with a dynamic in which darker instincts do their destructive work.
