Disney is ready to celebrate May the 4th with the return of animated anthology Star Wars: Visions. There are other stars in the form of the Kardashians, plus a documentary on Ed Sheeran, more comedy in the form of Abbott Elementary and the debut of Michelle Yeoh-starring American Born Chinese. But the real star gem is the exclusive arrival of Rye Lane.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Disney+ UK in May 2023:
A Small Light: Season 1 – 2nd May
Based on a true story, National Geographic’s A Small Light follows Miep Gies, a young, carefree secretary who hid Otto Frank and his family from the Nazis in WWII. For nearly two years, Miep and her husband Jan protected the Franks and others while she held down a day job, kept her marriage intact, and shouldered more responsibility than anyone could imagine. While millions are familiar with Anne Frank’s diary and her family’s life in the Secret Annex, this new series exposes the lesser-known side of the tale, and how one ordinary secretary showed extraordinary courage during one of the darkest moments in history. Two episodes arrive weekly.
Rye Lane – 3rd May
From director Raine Allen-Miller, RYE LANE is a romantic comedy that stars David Jonsson (“Industry,” “Deep State”) and Vivian Oparah (“Class,” “The Rebel”), as Dom and Yas, two twenty-somethings both reeling from bad break-ups, who connect over the course of an eventful day in South London – helping each other deal with their nightmare exes, and potentially restoring their faith in romance.
Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All – 3rd May
For the first time, global superstar Ed Sheeran opens the doors to provide a definitive and searingly honest view into his private life. Explorings the universal themes that inspire his music, this series follows Ed after he learns of life-changing news, revealing how he dealt with the most challenging period of his life. Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen personal archive footage, present-day authentic interviews with his wife and loved ones, and intimate performances in cinematic locations, each episode reveals a little more what Sheeran thinks of the world, of himself, and his music. All episodes arrive at once.
Star Wars: Visions: Season 2 – 4th May

Building on Season 1’s range of visual styles – from hand-drawn and black-and-white to CGI animation – Volume 2 will bring together nine new stories from creative teams in Japan, India, UK, Ireland, Spain, Chile, France, South Africa, and California. That includes, most notably, Cartoon Saloon and Aardman.

Abbott Elementary: Season 2, Part 2 – 17th May
This workplace comedy follows a group of dedicated, passionate teachers — and a slightly tone-deaf principal — as they navigate the Philadelphia public school system. Despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life, and though these incredible public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do — even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude towards educating children. All episodes arrive together.
The Chi: Season 5 – 17th May
From Lena Waithe, The Chi is a coming-of-age drama that follows a group of residents who become linked by coincidence on the South Side of Chicago.
White Men Can’t Jump – 19th May
White Men Can’t Jump is a modern remix of the iconic 1992 film that celebrates the streetball hustling culture of Los Angeles. Sinqua Walls stars as Kamal, once a promising player who derailed his future in the sport, and multi-platinum rap superstar Jack Harlow makes his movie debut as Jeremy, a former star of the game whose injuries stalled his own career. Juggling tenuous relationships, financial pressures and serious internal struggles, the two ballers—opposites who are seemingly miles apart—find they might have more in common than they imagined possible.
American Born Chinese: Season 1 – 24th May
Based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chinese is a genre-hopping action comedy that tells the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling the high school social scene with his home life.
