Disney+ is spending Christmas in a galaxy far, far away this year, as December marks the debut of new family Star Wars series Skeleton Crew. It’s joined by another family affair in the form of Inside Out spin-off Dream Productions, plus Marvel animation in the form of What If…?’s final chapter. For more adult fare, there’s an Elton John documentary and the sixth season of the always hilarious What We Do in the Shadows.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Disney+ in December 2024:
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – 3rd December
The series follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined. The series stars Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon and Nick Frost. Episodes 1 and 2 arrive together, followed by episodes weekly.
Sugarcane – 10th December
When unmarked graves are found on the grounds of an Indian residential school run by the Catholic Church in Canada, it sparks a national outcry. After years of silence, the abuse many children experienced in a system designed to destroy Indigenous communities comes to light. Now the community’s resilience is tested as it breaks the cycle of trauma and finds the strength to persevere.
Dream Productions: Season 1 – 11th December
From the world of Inside Out comes this new mockumentary series about the studio inside Riley’s mind where dreams really do come true – every night, on time and on budget, thanks to acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell). Riley’s growing up and her core Emotions are on the job helping her navigate, but now Paula is facing a nightmare of her own: her signature combination of dreams featuring Rainbow Unicorn and copious amounts of glitter just isn’t working anymore. To try and save her career, Paula teams up with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), an overly confident daydream director looking for his next big break. With differing visions on what makes Riley’s dreams successful, can the reluctant pair come together to create the next big tween-dream hit? Written and directed by Mike Jones. All episodes arrive at once.
Elton John: Never Too Late – 13th December
Directed by RJ Cutler and David Furnish, the documentary follows Elton John as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in this emotionally charged, intimate and uplifting full-circle journey. As he prepares for his final concert in North America at Dodger Stadium, Elton takes us back in time and recounts the extraordinary highs and heartbreaking lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction to become the icon he is today.
Blink – 17th December
When three of their four children are diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare and incurable disease that leads to severe visual impairment, the Pelletier family’s world changes forever. In the face of this life-altering news, Edith Lemay, Sébastien Pelletier and their children set out on a trip around the world to experience all its beauty while they still can. As they fill their memories with breathtaking destinations and once-in-a-lifetime encounters, the family’s love, resilience and unshakeable sense of wonder ensure that their uncertain future does not define their present.
What We Do in the Shadows: Season 6 – 17th December
Bat!
What If…? Season 3 – 22nd December
