Kate Walsh will star in Netflix’s high school movie, #REALITYHIGH.
The film is written by the young team of Jana Savage, Brandon Broussard and Hudson Obayuwana, collectively known as Murder Ink. Hudson and Brandon first met in school themselves – in Howard University back in 2001 – before working on web series sketch comedy Purple Stuff TV in 2009, where they met Jana.
They previously wrote The Perfect Match, which was released in US cinemas earlier this year by Lionsgate, before selling their comedy to the streaming giant with production initially slated for this summer.
Produced by Netflix and Court Five productions, #REALITYHIGH is directed by Fernando Lebrija and follows a nerdy girl, who finds herself the enemy of a social media celebrity in her class.
Deadline reports that Walsh will play a “quirky doctor at an animal shelter who is single and always hunting for a man”. The Grey’s Anatomy star joins an ensemble that includes Nesta Cooper, Alicia Sanz, Jake Borelli and Keith Powers.
It marks a second a project with the streaming giant for Walsh, best known Grey’s Dr. Addison Montgomery: she is also in production on the series Thirteen Reasons Why, from Tom McCarthy and Selena Gomez.
#REALITYHIGH will premiere on Netflix in July 2017.
