Trailer: Siempre Bruja set for February premiere

Netflix is returning to Colombia this February for new fantasy drama Siempre Bruja, and the first full trailer gives us a glimpse of what’s in store.
Produced by Dago García (Pedro el escamoso, El Paseo), the 10-episode series follows 18 year old Carmen, a Colombian slave and witch from the 17th century who, in a desperate attempt to save her loved one, travels in time to present day Cartagena. Navigating the waters of this exciting new world, Carmen will soon discover that once a witch, always a witch.
Filmed entirely in Colombia with locations in Bogotá, Cartagena and Honda, the young adult drama is written by Ana Maria Parra (Cuando Vivas Conmigo, La Nocturna) and Diego Vivanco (Mujeres Asesinas, Alias Maria). It marks Netflix’s growing commitment to Latin American productions, alongside a library of original series that include Distrito Salvaje, Ingobernable, Club de Cuervos, La Casa de las Flores, Edha, Narcos, O Mecanismo, O Matador and 3%.
Siempre Bruja will premiere on Friday 1st February. Here’s the trailer – Sabrina the teenage witch may be about to have some competition.

Siempre Bruja begins principal photography

Principal photography has begun today in Bogotá on Siempre Bruja, Netflix’s new original Colombian series.
Produced by Dago García (Pedro el escamoso, El Paseo), the 10-episode series follows 18 year old Carmen, a Colombian slave and witch from the 17th century who, in a desperate attempt to save her loved one, travels in time to present day Cartagena. Navigating the waters of this exciting new world, Carmen will soon discover that once a witch, always a witch.
The project was announced last year and now, with filming underway, Netflix has confirmed the ensemble of young Colombian talent that will star in the programme. The cast will be led by Angely Gaviria (Pambelé), Valeria Emiliani (La Cacica) Sofia Araujo (Sinú, Río de Pasiones), and Youtuber Dylan Fuentes. They will be joined by newcomers Carlos Quintero, Duban Prado, and Lenard Vanderaa, alongside Constanza Duque (Kadabra, Cafe con Aroma de Mujer), Sebastián Eslava (Narcos, La Niña), Luis Fernando Hoyos (Loving Pablo, Los Graduados), Verónica Orozco (Anónima, A Corazón Abierto).

Netflix announces second Colombian original series, Siempre Bruja

Netflix has commissioned its second Colombian original series, Siempre Bruja.
Inspired by the novel Yo, Bruja by Isidora Chacon, the show will follow 19 year old Carmen, a Colombian slave and witch from the 17th century, who, with the help of a wizard, travels in time to escape being burned at the stake. Carmen finds herself in present day Cartagena starting a new life, but once a witch, always a witch…

Composed of 10 one-hour episodes and shot entirely in 4K, the drama will be produced by Caracol Television for Netflix. The series will be directed by Liliana Bocanegra (La Esclava Blanca, Made in Cartagena, Celia) and Mateo Stivelberg (La Esclava Blanca, La Rectora). Ana Maria Parra (Cuando Vivas Conmigo, La Nocturna) will be head writer.
This new series joins a larger slate of original productions being filmed in Latin America, including a recently announced Colombian original series with Dynamo Productions, as well as Ingobernable, Club de Cuervos, La Casa de las Flores, Edha, Narcos, Samantha!, O Mecanismo, O Matador, 3% and Coisa Mais Linda, among others.
Siempre Bruja will begin production in summer 2018 with Dago García (Pedro el escamoso, El Paseo) as executive producer. It will be released worldwide on Netflix in 2019.
