Jesse Armstrong’s impeccably awkward drama about a wealthy family is equal parts comedy and tragedy. Watch out for scene-stealing turns from Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen.

Movies
The Greatest Showman – 30th November
Hugh Jackman trades razor sharp claws and fuzzy mutton chops for a top hat and tap shoes in this smash-hit, Golden Globe-winning musical, based on the life of businessman PT Barnum. After his employer’s bankruptcy puts his young family’s already humble lifestyle in jeopardy, the ambitious Barnum (Jackman) decides to risk everything to make it big. With the help of playwright Zac Efron and acrobat Zendaya, he assembles a cast of misfits to put on an unforgettable show.
The Shape Of Water – 10th December
There’s nothing fishy about this gorgeously old-school Hollywood romance, which just so happens to star a giant fish monster.
Hocus Pocus – 19th December
“Booooooook!”
Iron Man 3 – 24th December
One of Marvel’s best films proves that superhero blockbusters can still be character-driven dramas – and funny to boot. A witty script, Robert Downey Jr. in full motormouth mode and events taking place at Christmas? It’s no surprise that this is a Shane Black movie.
The Shining – 30th December
Struggling writer Jack and his family move into the deserted Overlook Hotel, only for bad things to happen. But Stanley Kubrick lets the bad things surface slowly, relying on the creepy soundtrack, Jack Nicholson’s unhinged presence and incredibly freaky special effects to set the mood. The masterpiece is so intricately assembled that there’s even a documentary looking at all the conspiracy theories surrounding the movie – including the suggestion that it’s a secret confession to Kubrick helping to fake the moon landing.
Unsane – 30th December
This enjoyably grubby B-movie from Steven Soderbergh is a superb showcase for Claire Foy.
