What’s leaving Sky and NOW TV in January / February 2018?
David Farnor | On 20, Jan 2018
Winter’s still here, and if you’re struggling with the long wait until Game Of Thrones returns in 2018, these cold January nights are the perfect time to catch up – as long as you binge them quick. Yes, HBO’s fantasy epic is bidding farewell from Sky Box Sets this month, along with several other box set gems, including Band of Brothers, Show Me a Hero and True Detective’s first season.
Sky Cinema, meanwhile, is waving goodbye to one of Pixar’s most beautiful films, The Good Dinosaur, as well as its accompanying short, Sanjay’s Super Team.
Not a Sky customer? You can get access to both Sky Box Sets and Sky Cinema through contract-free streaming service NOW, which costs £8.99 a month (for an Entertainment Membership, including Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, SYFY, FOX UK and more), or £9.99 a month for the whole Sky Cinema catalogue.
Whichever you subscribe to, this is your last chance to stream the following:
TV
Game Of Thrones: Season 1 to 5 – 25th January
Don’t miss your chance to watch – or re-watch – one of the best shows of the modern telly age.
Band Of Brothers – 29th January
Sky Box Sets presents Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s award-winning war dramas Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Starring Damian Lewis (Billions), James McAvoy (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Simon Pegg (Star Trek Beyond), Band of Brothers traces the fate of Easy Company across Europe during World War II. In a similar vein, The Pacific follows three marines as they are thrown into the chaos of the Pacific War during the same conflict.
Show Me A Hero – 25th January
Oscar Isaac is on excellent form in this drama from the creator of The Wire, which follows a US city mayor facing a political crisis when his town is divided over a controversial new housing plan.
Nathan For You: Season 1 – 27th January
One of the best TV shows you haven’t heard of, this US docu-reality comedy sees comedian Nathan Fielder use his business degree and life experiences to help actual small businesses turn a profit. A sharp-edged satire of commercialism, stuffed with amusingly over-the-top marketing ideas.
The Gifted: Season 1 – 30th January
A new series set in the X-Men universe, The Gifted tells the emotional story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their teenage children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family seeks help from an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
True Detective: Season 1 – 3rd February
New Orleans native and novelist Nic Pizzolatto’s crime drama focuses on Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) and brooding, Texas-born Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey), a pair of homicide detectives in Louisiana who are forced to relive a macabre 1995 murder case 17 years later when new information comes to light.
