What’s leaving Netflix UK in September / October 2019?
David Farnor | On 17, Sep 2019
School’s back in session, and one lesson that’s always painful to learn is not watching something on your watchlist before it departs Netflix UK. This September, that means it’s time to make sure you don’t miss superhero sequels, an enjoyably mad horror and a classic Heath Ledger romp.
This is your last chance to stream the following on Netflix UK:
A Cure for Wellness – 18th September
An ambitious young executive (Dane DeHaan) is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness centre” run by the sinister Dr Volmer (Jason Isaacs) at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. However, he soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem.
A Knight’s Tale – 20th September
Heath Ledger on a horse. Rufus Sewell as a bad guy. Paul Bettany as a naked Geoffrey Chaucer. A Knight’s Tale has everything. Also, jousting!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – 20th September
A more thoughtful, moving sequel makes up for a lack of laughs and novelty in this fun space adventure.
Ant-Man – 21st September
Paul Rudd is on laugh-out-loud form in this fun debut outing for the world’s smallest superhero.
Blue Is the Warmest Color – 24th September
Abdellatif Kechiche’s lesbian romance is known for its graphic sex scenes, but isn’t eye-opening because of its unflinching fornication – it’s eye-opening because it’s unflinching with everything else. Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos are superb as the pair of intense lovers, managing to be moving, sad, funny and painful all at once. Their sloppy entanglement feels so realistic that you can’t help but be caught up in it too.
The Limehouse Golem – 24th September
This intelligently gory period horror is an enjoyable, old-fashioned ride.
Back to the Future Trilogy – 25th September
This sci-fi adventure, starring Martin J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the young man and the old inventor who sends him back in time, is at once a fish-out-of-water comedy and a cute romance, as he makes sure his parents get together. Witty, funny, sweet and stylish, don’t miss a chance to rewatch the whole trilogy.
The Thing – 25th September
John Carpenter’s classic sees a remote Antarctic research station infiltrated by a shape-shifting alien. Who can be trusted? And who will make it out alive?
Nymphomaniac – 27th September
Don’t miss your chance to catch Lars von Trier’s controversial, graphic drama. All six hours and 24 minutes of it.
Fences – 29th September
Denzel Washington’s directorial debut, starring Viola Davis, crafts a moving drama fuelled by two powerhouse performances.
Good Will Hunting – 30th September
Robin Williams and Matt Damon are on superb form in this drama about a janitor at MIT who secretly has a genius-level IQ.
The Princess Bride – 14th October
Don’t miss your chance to watch this flawless classic before someone tries to remake it.
Jurassic Park – 15th October
With your window to watch the dino-tastic original trilogy closing, think less about the fact that you could watch it and more about why you should.
