Big Mouth renewed for Season 3
18th November 2018
Big Mouth will return for a third season, Netflix has officially confirmed.
The animated series, which is created by Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg, is one of Netflix’s most disturbing original shows. It aims to bring the horror of puberty to life, and does so with a warped sense of humour and as many dirty jokes as possible – turning the growing pains of life into literal monsters with foul mouths and bizarre habits.
And so we have The Hormone Monster (Nick Kroll) and The Hormone Monstress (Maya Rudolph), as well as The Shame Wizard (David Thewlis), the Hormone Monster’s mortal enemy, who haunts the kids and preys on their deepest shame. The kids, meanwhile, are young Andrew (John Mulaney) and his best friend, Nick (Kroll), as well as Gina (Gina Rodriguez), a girl on Missy (Jenny Slate) and Jessi’s (Jessi Klein) soccer team.
You can expect them all to return, as the series continues its exploration of the sordid, awkward moments that make up teen life.
“Whenever we interviewed a writer for the show we’d always say, ‘Tell us about what it was like when you had your first period, or what it was like when you were caught masturbating,’” the show’s creators said at a PaleyFest panel last year. “That was the litmus test because they had to be able to freely open up. We made the room a really safe place where everyone could talk about that.”
The renewal was announced this weekend, only a month after its second season premiered on Netflix. You can expect Season 3 to arrive next year – and for puberty to only get messier and messier.
Here’s the video Big Mouth posted on Twitter breaking the news:

25th October 2017
Big Mouth is coming, all over again.
Netflix has renewed the edgy adult animated series for a second season. “It comes across as a single-minded overload on shooting one’s load at any given opportunity,” we wrote in our review of the first season. “Big Mouth explores things other shows – and certainly not cartoons – wouldn’t dare. While some may find its adolescence difficult to connect with at times, it does address key issues we’ve all experienced growing up and therefore has elements virtually everyone can relate to. Branded as an adventure into puberty, it certainly is that. However, Big Mouth is a bit too on-the-nose with its teen mindset.”
Just over a month after its premiere, though, Netflix has already ordered more episodes, with Big Mouth Season 2 set to premiere in 2018. Here’s a video announcing the renewal:
