For a list of what’s coming soon on Netflix in February, click here. It’s the end of a month, which means one thing: titles are going to
disappear from Netflix. So, thanks to a handy list from Netflix.maft.uk, we round up the one’s that are worth checking out before they get taken down on Sunday 1st February.
Some may return as VOD licences are renewed, others may never appear again. Either way, from Terry Gilliam fantasy to comedy from the makers of Airplane! this is your last chance to stream the following:
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Terry Gilliam’s barmy fantasy adventure about the Baron’s supposed travels sees the director stick close to his Monty Python roots. The result is a wonderfully enchanting exploration of stories, storytelling, fantasy and reality.
13 Ghosts
After inheriting his eccentric uncle’s house, Cyrus Zorba moves in with his family, only to discover a host of malign spirits haunting the place. William Castle’s 1960 horror starring Charles Herbert is enjoyable camp stuff.
The Seven Year Itch
Billy Wilder. Marilyn Monroe. If you’ve never seen this, you know what to do.
Bad Boys
Back when Michael Bay was at the peak of his game, this odd-couple buddy cop movie starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is loud, explosive and – thanks to the main couple’s chemistry – enjoyably brainless fun.
Dark Water (2005)
Walter Salles’ remake of Hideo Nakata’s horror may not be as chilling as the original, but it bosts a stellar cast of Jennifer Connelly and Tim Roth and some top-notch visual effects.
Forrest Gump
To be watched while holding a box of chocolates and eating a can of Bubba Gump Shrimp.
It Could Happen to You
Hot on the heels of Face/Off tragically being removed from Netflix, another Nicolas Cage film is up for the chop. This time it’s 1994 rom-com It Could Happen to You, starring Bridget Fonda, which finds a man and a woman caught between a winning lottery ticket.
Multiplicity
With Michael Keaton blazing a trail in Birdman, this 1996 comedy gives you as much Michael Keaton as you could wish for, as a guy who discovers a way to clone himself. It may not be good, but in terms of Michael Keaton per minute of runtime, it’s arguably good value.
Top Gun
A thriller about fighter pilots or a story about homosexuality, whichever way you take it, Tony Scott’s 1986 action thriller is an undeniable classic.
When a Man Loves a Woman
Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan were in a movie together? Yes, they were. This 1994 romantic drama follows Alice and Michael, who face a crisis in their marriage when Alice’s drinking problem goes too far and forces them both to confront her alcoholism. Worth a watch.
Ruthless People
A millionaire planning to murder his shrewish wife thinks his prayers have been answered when she’s abducted: He simply refuses to pay the ransom. Four words to convince you to see it: Danny DeVito. Bette Midler. Three more: Zucker, Abrahams Zucker.
